There is a mature feel on the nose; the savoury spice has those exciting hints of time in bottle. The weight on the palate is balanced by the elegance, the meaty richness has a touch of green pepper, the blackberry and bilberry are underpinned by black truffles, all giving a very attractive complexity on the finish

Red and black fruits are tinged with green pepper giving the nose a spicy, savoury character. The palate has weight of fruit still enclosed by some firm tannins but the sweetness is there and will come through as the tannins reduce. The touch of cedar and oak gives the wine an added complexity, the firmness on the finish is characteristic of the year.
88 (2006 - 2010)
Mature, quite supple red fruits on the nose, an attractive mix of raspberry and mulberry, all backed by some fragrant bilberry. The fruit is ripe; the supple tannins give flesh to the palate. Towards the back the savoury truffle, so characteristic of the Malbec, comes through and gives complexity on the finish.
89 (2008-2016)
Attractive fruit, more black than red, all backed by minerals and savoury spice. It is still closed at the moment, the fruit encircled by firm but ripe tannins. Lots of fragrant charm and vibrant freshness, although it will never be a big powerful number, it has appealing elegance.
90 (2007-2012)
Sweet compote of red and black fruits that is so very typical of the year. Ripe and fleshy on the palate, the rounded tannins give suppleness and are well balanced by the mid palate freshness. Lovely depth, sweetness fills the mouth on the finish.
92 (2009-2020)
Ripeness shows on the nose, a rich mix of black and red fruits backed by black truffle and savoury flavours. There is power on the palate yet a flowing elegance, all so well balanced. The tannins are ripe and rounded yet do give structure and there is hidden fruit behind them.
92 (2012-2024)
Lots of power, very black fruit dominated at the moment, bilberry and bramble. The flavours on the palate are rich and deep, lifted by the savoury truffle and brightened by the mid freshness. There is a touch of oak at the moment but the fruit is so deep it will soon be absorbed.

"At Coutet, grape mix is fascinating and accounts for the wild savoury nose found on many vintages."
